Oh Gee, My Baby Boy is THREE!

Mitchell is into three things these days.
Cars 2, Spiderman, and Luigi and Mario.
When I asked him what kind of birthday he wanted this year, he told me a "Cars birfday."
So, being the uncrafty mom that I am, I searched the internet for a creative way to make a cars cake.
Oh man, there are so many options out there.
Some looked pretty sketchy and others looked way out of my league.
I was talking to my friend Elice, telling her my plans and she told me that she had the cake pan for Lightening McQueen.
I jumped on it.
Very well knowing that it probably wouldn't turn out very well, I took the pan and began my journey.
I did make an ariel cake for Maddie once and it looked like Ariel on crack.
Needless to say, I didn't have very high hopes for myself.
But alas, my boy was turning 3, and he really didn't care what his cake looked like.
All he wanted was Lightening Mcqueen.
Thus, this momma delivered!

The pan already had the grooves in it, so I just had to follow the lines.
Doesn't sound that hard, does it?

It's amazing how much frosting it calls for and how many different colors there has to be.
In the end, I probably threw more than half the frosting away!

The finished product.
I think it turned out pretty awesome.
Mitchell did too.
He kept showing everyone that came to our house his
"cars" cake.

ah, my little boy is growing up.

I didn't want to do a big party, and since he doesn't have too many little guy friends, we invited the neighbor kids that he plays with everyday and his little nursery friend Thomas to come over for cake and ice cream.

my guy with his cake

singing happy birthday to you!

blowing out the candles
with the help of little friends (notice Camden)

enjoying cake and ice cream with his fingers.
hey, it's his birfday!

candy for a present.
it doesn't get much better than that!

and trucks
he's all boy!

he was so thrilled about all his presents. notice how he can hardly contain himself! haha!

and more candy. do these friends know this boy or what?

never have a birthday party with out a pinata.
and never get a pinata that you have to break open with a baseball bat.
this is a pull string pinata.
they are the best.

and even though the pull strings didn't work and we had to manually open the thing up, it was still the best part of the party!

oh my. there was so much candy..the kids didn't even have to fight for it!

Mitchell was very particular in his candy collecting.
He chose only bubble gum, rootbeer barrels, and butterscotch.
he left the rest for everyone else.

so fun. even if it's someone else's birthday!

the kids with their loot.
I couldn't even get Mitch to get in the pictures.
He's in the background jumping on the trampoline

more presents to open on his actual birthday.

the blessed luigi and mario backpack.
he's wanted this forever.
every morning when I ask the girls if they have their backpacks for school, he tells me he doesn't have one.
well, now you do little man, now you do.
he has worn it pretty much everywhere since he opened it.

now he's excited!

and come cars decals to go on his wall from grammie and grampa Logie

oh man, this kid is dying to go to school.
too bad we have 3 years to Kindergarten.
taking the girls every morning is pure torture to this kid!

but he'll be ready when it's time!

and I don't have any pictures of this, but I have to write it down to document it.
there is a local park that Mitch loves to play at.
It's called Merrill Park.
he requested we go there for his birthday, so we did.
Matt took the kids on a little nature hike and decided to take a trail that was less traveled, but still a trail.
Madeline told him Matt it was not a good idea, but the daddy said it would be fine.
They had to pass over a log, but there was a little opening where Mitch decided to crawl under it.
The next thing Matt knew, was all the little kids screaming, a buzzing sound in his ears and his head starting to sting.
Yep, they had walked into a hornets nest and the hornets were NOT happy.
Each kid came away for at least 2 stings and Matt with more than that.
It was a rough night.
I had Alexa, so we weren't there when it happened, but I have to admit it was a little comical to listen to all my kids crying and screaming at the same time.
I am glad we are not allergic to the stings, because it could have been disasterous.
Madeline was very upset that her dad didn't listen to her because she was listening to the Spirit.
A little benedryl and loves and they were good to go.
The kids swear they will never go there again!
