All of my kids have taken a pacifier. I think that Mitchell would have passed on it, but I forced it on him. He was such a terrible nurser and I didn't want to be the human paci, so I made him take a real one. Well, he quickly became attached to it and never wanted to let it go. We tried and tried to get him to only take it when he was sleeping, but to no avail. So he always had the paci, or "ba ba" as Madeline nicked named it when she was a baby. Well, just as Madeline did, he bit the tip of his ba ba's, and then it would make him mad. I kept telling him that if he bit the tips, they would be gone and he wouldn't have them anymore. He didn't seem to care. At one point, we could only find one anyway, and he had totally bitten the tip off of it. I was very surprised at how well he did when he realized they didn't "work" anymore. The first day at nap, he just held it in his hand, and he cried for it a few nights at bedtime, but for the most part, he did amazing. My girls were like 4 days of detox when we broke it from them. But not my Mitchy. It took a week or so of him randomly asking for his ba ba, but then he just stopped. For a couple of days, he would find ba ba's around the house that were "in tact" and he would put them in his mouth and come running up to me and say "found one." I would bribe him with some licorice and he would give them up. I quickly cut the top of them and would make him throw them away.
Bye Bye ba ba!
Here's a funny story:
I went to get Mitch up from his nap one day and was very frustrated that he didn't have his ba ba. He threw his hands up in the air and slammed them down on his legs. He said "I want a ba ba." I told him that he bit them and they were all gone. At that point, he looked up at me as his eyes got super big and he said "Buy more ba ba's." It was like he had had an epiphiony that we could just go to the store and buy more ba ba's. Poor kid. It had been over a week since we got rid of the last one too. He was just so convinced that we could just buy more. I convinced him that they didn't have any more at the store either. He was satisfied!
