Mitch's Stitches

Tonight when the girls and I were taking Great Grandma Logie home to Allyson's house.  When we pulled into the driveway, we pulled up to Matt frantically telling us to get out of the car. I didn't know what was going on, but that I could see Mitch had a gash in his head. He wasn't really bleeding, but I could tell something had happened. We got out of the car and Matt put Mitch in the car and took him to a neighbors house to see if they needed to go to the ER. It was around 8:30pm, so all the quick cares were now closed. The lady they went to see definitely said it needed to be checked out, so Matt called me and told me he was taking Mitch to the ER. I still didn't know what had happened, but I knew when Matt got the chance, he would call and let me know.  I got the girls ready for bed and my sweet Lauren, bless her heart, was so concerned about her little brother. I think she really though he was going to bleed to death and not come home. She couldn't stop crying or fall asleep or even relax. I'd never seen someone so concerned for their brother. I kept trying to explain to her that he was going to be ok, and come home to us that night, but she wasn't really listening to me. Around 11pm, I finally got a call from Matt telling me that Mitch had to have 4 stitches in his head right above his eyebrow.  Matt didn't even know what happened. He said that he passed Mitch going down the stairs (Mitch has been doing stairs for a while now) and went out to shut the garage doors. When he came back in, he heard Mitch crying and went to see what was going on. Mitch had been pretty whiny that day, so  Matt wasn't too concerned with getting to him, except that it was a different kind of cry. When Matt got to him, he noticed that his eye was bleeding. Mitch had fallen down the stairs, but we don't know what he hit his eye on. There was a big box of 720 pampers wipes at the landing on the stairs and all we can think of is that he lost his balance, fell, and hit the corner of the box. That's the story Mitch will tell too, but we will never really know what happened. Matt said it was pretty traumatic at the ER, as they had to wrap my baby in a blanket to keep him from moving and Mitch just screamed the entire time. He was soaked in sweat when they were done. Poor kid. But he survived and so did his dad. Matt tends to "overreact" to things like this, but did well given the situation.

Mitch will tell you the doctor made him all better and that he had to have stitches. Everytime I get him dressed, he reminds me to be careful of his stitches. It's adorable.
